DC Office of Human Rights Offers Free Business Training

The DC Office of Human Rights provides free trainings to help businesses better understand the District’s civil rights laws and their obligations under those laws.

According to DC OHR, last year over $3.89 million was awarded to civil rights complainants, but many of those cases could have been avoided. The free training is intended to offer business owners, managers, and staff best practices to follow current laws. Upcoming workshops include:

  • Overview of Civil Rights Laws for Employers
  • Criminal Background Checks in the Hiring Process
  • Understanding Source of Income & Fair Housing
  • Customer Service & Civil Rights Laws
  • Reasonable Accommodations in the Workplace

For businesses that are unable to attend the trainings or have specific questions, the DC OHR Business Outreach Liaison is available to speak one-on-one. Contact Simone Smillie at simone.smillie@dc.gov or 202-478-1381.
