Call for Artists: Tenleytown Metro Station Public Art Project

September 26, 2022

Tenleytown Main Street (TMS), in partnership with WMATA’s Art in Transit program, plans to install a temporary public art project at the Tenleytown-AU Metro station that will be on display from November 2022 through August 2023. Artwork will be printed on Coroplast panels that will be affixed to the wooden construction barricades surrounding the east Tenleytown-AU Metro Station during the ongoing escalator replacement and repair project.

TMS seeks submissions of original artwork or concepts from local artists for inclusion in this public art project. Artwork or concepts should reflect the theme of “Art in Motion,” which aligns with both the intent of the Art in Transit program as well as Tenleytown’s vibrant arts and wellness communities. Artists may present a concept for a single panel or a series of panels; all artwork must be suitable for digital reproduction. Submissions should take into consideration the modular nature of the panels and that the panels may be rearranged during the project; this project is not suitable for a linear sequence. For an example of a similar project, please visit: https://www.wmata.com/initiatives/art-in-transit/ait-lenfant-brute-block.cfm

Submissions may not include: logos, copyrighted, or trademarked images; advertisements; depictions of drug use or sexual themes; and/or political, commercial, or religious themes or messages.

One or more artists may be selected for inclusion in the art project, subject to final review and approval by TMS and WMATA. Each selected artist will receive a stipend of $200, inclusive of time and materials.
