CommuniKids and the Wisconsin Avenue Baptist Church announced that the language immersion pre-school will temporarily house its University of the District of Columbia campus classes at the church at 3920 Alton Place in Tenleytown. Starting August 23, 2018, CommuniKids will use several classrooms in the church while its new facilities at the UDC-Van Ness location are being prepared.
A National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accredited preschool serving children 2.5 to 5 years of age, CommuniKids offers a full-day Spanish immersion curriculum, with before and after care programs available. The preschool is also the only community-based small business in Ward 3 offering free pre-K for three- and four-year-olds. The free pre-kindergarten classes are part of the DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) Pre-K Enhancement and Expansion Funding Program.
CommuniKids and the Wisconsin Avenue Baptist Church will host a joint informational meeting at the church on Wednesday, August 1 at 7 p.m. Meet CommuniKids’ founders, marketing director, and UDC center director and find out more about this joint venture. All members of the community are invited, and light refreshments will be served.
The UDC campus location will be the second in Washington, DC for CommuniKids, which also has a school in Tenleytown at 4719 Wisconsin Ave. The new facility was offered by public bidding process as part of Mayor Bowser’s “Thrive by Five” initiative. CommuniKids was notified in May that they had the winning bid.
