Description

Founded in 1945 as the first racially integrated school in the nation's capital, Georgetown Day School was previously spread across multiple locations. Now housed in one building located across from the high school, the lower and middle schools have common spaces positioned in the center of the interiors, forming shared, flexible learning environments surrounded by individual classrooms. Join AIA|DC for a tour of the school!

Learning Objectives:

• Describe the history of the school and its founding as the first racially integrated school in the nation’s capital.

• Summarize the process of unifying the campus with this new lower/middle school into a single building.

• Identify strategies for locating common spaces in the center of the interiors, forming shared, flexible learning environments surrounded by individual classrooms.

• Describe how the unique site grading offered opportunities to consolidate underground parking below exterior play fields for the school.
