Description

Join the Workshop as we explore exciting new chamber music from diverse voices. Clarice Assad's Lemuria, for cello choir, cello soloists, and percussion, examines the myth of inhabitants of a lost world with lessons for our current challenges with climate change. Charles Mingus was one of the most important bassists in jazz history and an outspoken advocate for civil rights. The Workshop will perform an arrangement of his Boogie Stop Shuffle for saxophone quartet along with Astor Piazzolla's Le Grand Tango. The concert will also feature newly composed pieces by AU student composers.

The AU Workshop explores the intersection between jazz and other kinds of music including (but not limited to) funk, fusion, rock and contemporary classical.

Directed by Noah Getz and featuring guest artists Nancy Snider, Nobue Matsuoka, and Krysta Hyppolite.
