Valentine’s Shopping & Dining Guide

January 31, 2020

Valentine’s Day is February 14. Here’s your guide to where to find gifts, dine out, and celebrate locally with your special Valentine.

Flowers & Balloons

Balloon Zoom creates gorgeous balloon sculpture, bouquets, and bespoke balloons – and to make things extra special, you can add a plush animal to your order. Free delivery in Tenleytown and AU Park. Or if you are seeking more traditional Valentine’s Day bouquets, family-owned and operated York Flowers has nearly 80 years of experience in creating beautiful floral arrangements.

Cards & Gifts

One can never go wrong with a card for friends, family, and that special someone. From funny to heartfelt, you can find just the right sentiment at locally-owned businesses like the UPS Store and Ace Hardware in their card sections. Ace also has a selection of adorable Made in DC products that would make perfect gifts. And Sullivan’s Toys & Art Supplies has fun, Valentine’s themed gifts for kids or those who are young at heart.

For the special someone who is into fitness, CorePower Yoga is offering 20% off any single retail item and Club Pilates has a 15% off sale on all pink, white, and red retail items.

  • Club Pilates, 4433 Wisconsin Ave.

Jewelry

Who doesn’t love a little bling? Studio 4903 artisan jewelers create one of a kind pieces that are wearable works of art. Make sure you call ahead to schedule an appointment.

Latte Love

Some say chocolate is the way to your heart, but we’re partial to coffee. And local coffee shops Bourbon Coffee and Coffee Nature brew up delicious espresso beverages. Who knows, you might even discover a heart in your latte art this Valentine’s Day. For those who like a little less caffeine in their treats, both shops also offer an array of sweets and snacks.

  • Bourbon Coffee, 4200 Wisconsin Ave
  • Coffee Nature, 4224 Fessenden St

Dinner out

Did you know that Tenleytown has 35+ restaurants, ranging from casual to full-service? With many cuisines – from French to Italian to Indian – and at many price points, it’s easy to find a perfect spot to celebrate with your loved one. Local French bistro Le Chat Noir is offering a three-course Valentine’s dinner that also includes a rose and chocolate, and Cafe of India is presenting a special chef’s menu with a complementary dessert. Plus Guapo’s will offer specials throughout the evening.

Or make a night of it with dinner and a show

The Greenberg Theatre presents the musical “The Boy Detective Fails” or head to the Katzen Arts Center for the highly philosophical “Paint: a pair of one-acts about almost everything”. If your tastes lean more musical than theatrical, the Middle C Music at  St. Columba concert series presents Duo Spiro for an evening of bright classical music in the lovely setting of St. Columba’s Church. For those who will celebrate with their Valentine on Saturday, St. Ann’s Church presents A Century of Love, featuring songs of love and longing by artists ranging from Mozart and Haydn to Gershwin, the Beatles and Sondheim.
