You’ve Got a Friend – at Fessenden Park

April 4, 2018

Tenleytown Main Street is pleased to announce that the DC Department of Parks and Recreation has named TMS the official Park Partner for Fessenden Park. Located along Wisconsin Avenue between Fessenden Street and Emery Place, the park has been an untapped community resource in the 110 years since it was donated to the city. We are committed to revitalizing the park to make it a true community gathering space for people of all ages.

Last spring, Tenleytown Main Street sponsored a community survey and design charrette, which gave us clear direction on the community’s goals for the park: Create an accessible, safe and welcoming place for people of all ages to gather, eat, relax, and attend small community events like exercise classes and concerts.

The all-volunteer Friends of Fessenden Park is working to achieve these long-term goals. We hosted our first Cocoa & Carols community event at the park as part of Tenley WinterFest, and have a busy schedule of events for 2018. We kick off the season with a park clean-up on Saturday, April 14 from 10 a.m. to noon. All volunteers are welcome! Sign up online.

Tenleytown Main Street also welcomes all community members to join the Friends of Fessenden Park to help plan events and to develop a park design plan for the future. We can use people with all sorts of expertise – you do not need to be a design professional to contribute to our efforts!

Anyone interested in joining the Friends of Fessenden Park can email Hilary Oat-Judge at design@tenleytownmainstreet.org. The next meeting will take place Wednesday, May 2 at 6:30 p.m. at Tenleytown Main Street, 4545 42nd St., Suite 214.

We are counting on our fellow community members to help us transform this underused space into a vibrant park that all can enjoy!
